Wellness Forums for Young Women

It’s About Me….and It’s About Time!

This one-day interactive forum will allow young women across Centre County to build personal strength and self-confidence to help combat the stresses of today’s high pressure society. Drawing on the expertise of Jana Marie Foundation’s board and special guests, the day’s program features a range of topics from enhancing self-confidence, to team-building, to health and well-being, to creative expression, to self-defense. This event is open to young women in grades 6 through 12, who are currently enrolled in the State College Area, Penns Valley, Bellefonte, Bald Eagle, Philipsburg and surrounding School Districts. This event is limited to 36 girls and is free to Centre County residents.

Purpose:

Build personal strength and self-confidence to help combat the stresses of today’s high pressure society.

Objectives:

  1. To increase self-confidence and self-awareness in young women
  2. To open the doors of communication to help young women create stronger relationships with family, friends, and personal networks.
  3. To provide opportunities for personal development through positive opportunities for creative expression.
  4. To strengthen personal identity through a focus on knowing, appreciating and developing oneself.

SAMPLE BREAK OUT SESSIONS - Please check back for the confirmed break out sessions!

All participants will have the chance to attend each session throughout the day!
Rhythm of Life: Drum circles have proven to empower people in the act of celebrating unity and life. Today, participants will be brought together, on equal footing, through the use of rhythm and sound.
Crafting Your Identity: Sometimes the best journeys are the ones that don't go in a straight line. Participants will reflect on their experiences and create a piece of art that represents their identity. These pieces of art will then serve as a tool to break down barriers and to discuss trials, triumphs and life experiences.
A Healthy Me: Mental, emotional and physical health are equally important when it comes to meeting goals and dealing with the ups and downs of life. Through Zen Doodling we will discover a way to help deal with stress.

SPRING 2017 AGENDA

8:45-9:00: Registration

9:00-9:45am: Welcome and Ice Breaker
The girls will be led through a variety of team building activities and will discuss the importance of working together and lending a helping hand to friends and peers.

9:50-10:35am: Breakout Sessions 1

10:40-11:30am: Keynote Speaker

11:30-12:15pm: Breakout Session 2

12:20-12:50pm: Lunch

12:55-1:40pm: Breakout Session 3

1:40pm-2:30pm: Self Defense and Closing Remarks

Cat Cook from Monarch Martial Arts will teach the girls basic self-defense and will lead the girls through an exercise of great empowerment.
